Driving Lesson Bursary Competition
As of 2012 I will be offering a Driving Lesson Bursary to a very special person every year. The idea is to dispel the myths around learning to drive and it’s going to be ‘proof-in-the-pudding’ stuff so the public at large can understand what it takes, once and for all. No, most have no clue…and this is what you will help to demistify as the winner. But that is only the competition’s secondary reason. The primary, main, Numero Uno reason is putting a safe diver on the road, one person at a time. 100% Legal! You see, it may be unfathomable or beyond belief, but you can’t imagine how gatvol both the public and authorities get prior to, during, and after diving tests. First, you struggle yourself through quicksand to get an appointment, then you run the gauntlet of picking ‘the right’ driving instructor or coach, then lots and lots of practice follows and eventually your test day arrives…sooner than you thought. Then, on the day of your test you have the jitters to a lesser or greater extent than your peers or siblings and no amount of horror stories can prepare you for the experience you’ll have, whether that [...]
Year New, New Look and lots of things
Compliments of the season everyone! After three years with the old theme it started to get, not only boring, but I started running out of functionality as technology improved in leaps and bounds…literally. If I think how much effort and a multitude of bits and pieces went into making the (now old) them work and cranking out my content I must say I won’t miss it. Hope you like the new look Patently the new theme looks much better, geared for socialised with Twitter and Facebook interaction and much of the functionality and I wanted I’ve either hard-coded already (like the author-bit at the end of posts) or I’ve not yet had the need for much other than the tweaks I’ve already implemented. That said, there are a few things that will be added along the way and there may be oopsies I’ve overlooked, so please point out anything that I may have missed, please. For now, though…we’re Good to Go! It now, is also patently obvious that either I was doing something wrong, expected too much, or the penny was long overdue in dropping, when it cames to commenting on my blog. Yes, did I mix my tenses (my [...]
New License System: Is it Good Bad or Bullshit
“We want to create a new crop of drivers,” and “the graduated licence scheme was applied in countries such as Australia and had contributed to the reduction of road accidents.” said Transport Department spokesman Logan Maistry recently but is he over-optimistic? The current K53 system and drivers tests are much begrudged, bemoaned and bribes are rife. This much we know. What Logan Maistry now proposes is a brand new graduated driving license plan based on a foreign country’s system that seems to have produced good results in a foreign populace. Although not an altogether misguided idea, Mr. Maistry needs reminding that this is Africa, in particular South Africa. Why do I make the distinction? It is just a very good idea to look at our local population and their perceptions of what driving is all about. I would say 99% have a McDonalds idea of the start-to-finish licensing process. Many think 10 lessons and a test makes them a driver, or in the very least it should. Another thing about our population is that we simply do not have the same driving culture of a country like Australia, for instance. There, the exception is speeding where, in stark contrast here, [...]
New way to Contact me…
Just a note to say that I’ll be changing the wayI have changed the way you will be contacting me. I’m making I have made a Contact Page that doesn’t rely on a contact form. I’ve just simply had too much crap with spambots scraping my email address and sending me all sorts of spam. On the other hand I’ve also had people not completing the spam question at the bottom of the contact page and then trusting that their email has been sent. Yes, it may seem like silly questions to ask, but a spam question is the only means by which a person can distinguish between a human and a robot – robots not being able to answer questions n’all. I mean, would a robot know what the colour of an elephant is? Now don’t get a fright – a simple hyperlink you click will open a new message, just like any other you would be sending from your side. The difference? Direct communication, controlled, and my email address is jumbled so robots can’t get to it and you don’t have issues getting hold of me. Should be up and running by tonight : ) Update: Done and [...]
PLEASE Ignore Google!!!!
I’ve been frying my brain to find the cause of the drop of visitors to my site and I’ve found the culprit – GOOGLE! Jeez, I need this like a flat tyre on a rations truck between 20 000 famished Ethiopians!!! OK, so here’s the problem, and I’ll illustrate with screen prints… In your search to find a driving instructor in the Randburg area, or Sunninghill, or Paulshof, or Fourways, or Bryanston, or ANY of the areas that I cover, you might have been met by the disappointment below (note the +sign that expands the selection): How ANNOYING! All, – or mostly all – the references told you NOT to visit my site because you will be banned. (I’ll explain at the very bottom) Now what should that have looked like then, given another perspective? You see, Google in all its wisdom makes decisions on behalf of us webmasters and site owners and sometimes, as is the case here, we get shafted so badly it’s frightening. OK, so shoot me – I’m NOT prepared to pay a web developer thousands of Rand to build a spiffy site, IF they can’t actually take on the job ethically and honestly devoting their [...]
*Chat* Random Stuff I Do
Call me whacky, but I do random stuff, either because the situation demands it and I’m a born trouble-shooter, or I get a compulsion to help people – the other thing I’m born to do with a passion. I’ve never been big on sticking to convention, other than preparing people for that real pedantic, by-the-book examiner’s test and since I have a passion to see you develop and conquer K53, I do that with interest, enthusiasm and beyond borders you’ll be hard-pressed to find elsewhere. But that’s just the un-random angle. So the other day a guy contacted me with a request to help him with his learner’s test. He had failed a couple of times and one select section of the test seemed to be the ultimate challenge. His request was particularly moving and I couldn’t help myself – my empathy just exploded. What did I do? I replied that if he would be willing to buy me breakfast and willing to sit in the smoking section of a Wimpy within range, we could consider the fee settled and we had a deal! Needless to say my offer was met with apprehensive silence for a few days. I did [...]
*Chat* Parent K53 Concerns
This is just a short note to advise that I’ve started a new chat section where parents, among others, can voice their concerns and ask questions relating to K53 driving. Other than that, the Chat Section is an open forum for ANYONE currently (or not so currently) going through the process of learning to drive with K53 methods. All posts in this section will be identified by *Chat* and will be filed under category ‘Chat’. Let’s discuss anything that’s on your mind… Suggest topics for m to write on – something that’s been bugging you, something that you’d like to know about, something that you think needs more attention… How do I get rid of those nerves! Is that irritating handbrake necessary ALL the time? What’s with this stupid checking out evrything BUT the road? How ridiculous is rolling back a few centimeters when everyone does it anyway? C’mon – let’s hear it and get the logic out in the open… The floor is yours…
Another Excellent K53 Test!
From a first fail to an excellent K53 drivers test – It CAN be done, and here’s how it happened for my test applicant. This young lady is quite the perfectionist. At first, she was very concerned about hill starts and actually became so consumed by the thought of ‘making it’ past this part of the K53 drivers test that she seemed to dread it more than any other part of the test. I cautioned her many times about the danger of getting wrapped up in any single element of the K53 drivers test, but then again, I can only do just that much about what a person is allowing to go through their minds. Yip, you guessed it. Her thinking got her into trouble; it got her exactly what she focussed on so much…rolling back…and failing. People, you need to understand that there is truth in the words ‘What you resist persists’. It’s The Universe’s way of getting you what you want. You do want what you’re thinking about so persistently, right? Think back to anything good that you really, really wanted very badly – that new pair of shoes, the new pair of jeans, the new pair of [...]
License Test Bribing Bastards!
Our driver licensing system is failing us! Yes, I blame the licensing system which aids and abets and harbours its select guilty examiners and its nepotized “contacts” as its bastard illegitimate children in one corrupt family supposedly in charge of waging a war against road deaths. Not only has it lost all control, but it spawns, it breeds by the day, it perpetuates bad faith, and it clearly fosters narcissism, selfishness and greed as a replacement for job satisfaction. Referring to these nefarious bastards as such, I believe they fit the definition of vicious, despicable, thoroughly disliked persons and illegitimate children of a system meant to serve and protect. Moreover, integrity is swept so deep under the rug that it seems I’m the only one that can remember the word means adherence to moral, ethical principles and soundness of moral character, with honesty being a pre-requisite. In short, I am of the opinion that a certain element of our licensing system is the moral hazard factor at the gravesides of too many to count. I will always remain proud of my reputation although I still feel the sting of the authority’s slap in my face. Gone are the days when [...]
Please bear with me!
I have been goining through absolute hell! Please bear with me! I’ve been working around the clock for weeks now just to get my website off its knees where it is currently being held at ransom by the Russians, among others. You won’t be-LIEVE the amount of spam hit my server, and the Viagra enough to wake a nation…and I’m a GURL!!! This is just a short note to say that I still offer the same superior standard of training on driving lessons and if you’d rather SMS or phone me it’s your best bet in the interim. My contact form does work but my replies don’t seem to reach those that make enquiries. There has also been a gross slump of business allround due to the stupid test dates being issued curently…but that’s something for a next post. Thank you for your patience! It is now 01:11AM and since the one eye that I have left can’t focus anymore, I’m about to pass out from exhaustion… ZZzzzzzzz
