Your Examiner and His Opinion

Apr 15, 2012   //   by   //   Advice   //   59 views   //   No Comments

Prior to your driving test there are always a million questions milling through your mind. I know this. In view of this fact I thought it would be quite enlightening to get a from-the-horse’s mouth opinion from 3 examiners and get their personal opinions about You the public, on the subject of driving tests. Although I know most questions that plague you and which you would absolutely love to ask your examiner, I am inviting you to email me with a list of your own specific questions that I can pose to the examiners in an interview. You’re also welcome [...]

K53 and the Dead Pedal

Apr 15, 2012   //   by   //   Advice   //   63 views   //   No Comments

Chances are you’ve never in your life heard about the Dead Pedal, right? It is, however good that you widen your scope to include stuff not necessarily K53 licensing alone. Much of what you will learn in view of your driving test would be technical, yet basic driving with a few select hoops to jump through…and that’s it. So what is the Dead Pedal? Common, but mistakenly referred to as a foot rest, the Dead Pedal is what looks like a foot rest. Take a good look to the left, next to the clutch pedal on your left, on the [...]

WARNING!: No Driving Instructor Certificate – No Test

Apr 2, 2012   //   by   //   General   //   74 views   //   No Comments

In December, Mr. van der Heefer at Randburg Testing Station made an announcement that driving instructors that are not certified will not be allowed to do driving tests at his testing station. The cut-off date was postponed once, but the effective date is 2 April 2012. Getting rid of the Fly-by-Night driving schools has proven to be an almost insurmountable problem over the last few years. What exactly defines this category, in public opinion, may be the instructors that mushroom out of nowhere; the guys that run off with your money; those guys that give sub-standard training…who knows. I don’t [...]

Driving Lesson Bursary Competition

Jan 19, 2012   //   by   //   General   //   584 views   //   1 Comment

UPDATE: 15 February Due to email problems, the competition is extended. Please have a look below. Thanks. As of 2012 I will be offering a Driving Lesson Bursary to a very special person every year. The idea is to dispel the myths around learning to drive and it’s going to be ‘proof-in-the-pudding’ stuff so the public at large can understand what it takes, once and for all. No, most have no clue…and this is what you will help to demistify as the winner. But that is only the competition’s secondary reason. The primary, main, Numero Uno reason is putting a [...]

Year New, New Look and lots of things

Jan 6, 2012   //   by   //   General   //   332 views   //   4 Comments

Compliments of the season everyone! After three years with the old theme it started to get, not only boring, but I started running out of functionality as technology improved in leaps and bounds…literally. If I think how much effort and a multitude of bits and pieces went into making the (now old) them work and cranking out my content I must say I won’t miss it. Hope you like the new look Patently the new theme looks much better, geared for socialised with Twitter and Facebook interaction and much of the functionality and I wanted I’ve either hard-coded already (like [...]

New License System: Is it Good Bad or Bullshit

Oct 22, 2011   //   by   //   Safety   //   232 views   //   Comments Off

“We want to create a new crop of drivers,” and “the graduated licence scheme was applied in countries such as Australia and had contributed to the reduction of road accidents.” said Transport Department spokesman Logan Maistry recently but is he over-optimistic? The current K53 system and drivers tests are much begrudged, bemoaned and bribes are rife. This much we know. What Logan Maistry now proposes is a brand new graduated driving license plan based on a foreign country’s system that seems to have produced good results in a foreign populace. Although not an altogether misguided idea, Mr. Maistry needs reminding [...]

New way to Contact me…

Oct 5, 2011   //   by   //   General   //   320 views   //   Comments Off

Just a note to say that I’ll be changing the wayI have changed the way you will be contacting me. I’m making I have made a Contact Page that doesn’t rely on a contact form. I’ve just simply had too much crap with spambots scraping my email address and sending me all sorts of spam. On the other hand I’ve also had people not completing the spam question at the bottom of the contact page and then trusting that their email has been sent. Yes, it may seem like silly questions to ask, but a spam question is the only [...]

PLEASE Ignore Google!!!!

Aug 16, 2011   //   by   //   Advice   //   410 views   //   Comments Off

I’ve been frying my brain to find the cause of the drop of visitors to my site and I’ve found the culprit – GOOGLE! Jeez, I need this like a flat tyre on a rations truck between 20 000 famished Ethiopians!!! OK, so here’s the problem, and I’ll illustrate with screen prints… In your search to find a driving instructor in the Randburg area, or Sunninghill, or Paulshof, or Fourways, or Bryanston, or ANY of the areas that I cover, you might have been met by the disappointment below (note the +sign that expands the selection): How ANNOYING! All, – [...]

*Chat* Random Stuff I Do

Aug 14, 2011   //   by   //   Chat   //   186 views   //   Comments Off

Call me whacky, but I do random stuff, either because the situation demands it and I’m a born trouble-shooter, or I get a compulsion to help people – the other thing I’m born to do with a passion. I’ve never been big on sticking to convention, other than preparing people for that real pedantic, by-the-book examiner’s test and since I have a passion to see you develop and conquer K53, I do that with interest, enthusiasm and beyond borders you’ll be hard-pressed to find elsewhere. But that’s just the un-random angle. So the other day a guy contacted me with [...]

*Chat* Parent K53 Concerns

Aug 14, 2011   //   by   //   Chat   //   193 views   //   Comments Off

This is just a short note to advise that I’ve started a new chat section where parents, among others, can voice their concerns and ask questions relating to K53 driving. Other than that, the Chat Section is an open forum for ANYONE currently (or not so currently) going through the process of learning to drive with K53 methods. All posts in this section will be identified by *Chat* and will be filed under category ‘Chat’. Let’s discuss anything that’s on your mind… Suggest topics for m to write on – something that’s been bugging you, something that you’d like to [...]
