Driving Schools in Randburg
Ok, so you started with a basic search for driving schools in Randburg but that could have been driving schools in Sunninghill, driving schools in Bryanston, driving schools in Fourways, driving schools in Sandton, or wherever you live would have formed part of the query on Google or some search engine.
Let’s face it, seeing the list of Google results is hardly exciting, as far as getting a sense of whom you’ll be training with.
But that’s only the beginning. You then contact whichever driving school that catches your fancy via email or phone and your search is a little narrower. You now filter your choice by the attitude, friendliness and quote you received and your search starts taking shape.
Now you start making a short list of the driving schools that kinda impressed you and you include the ones that didn’t sound too bad or that has a really, really good fee structure on offer. But what else is there to know before booking someone’s time for a driving lesson?
Well, there’s the matter of whether you’ll actually get on with your new driving instructor and whether you’ll get a sense of value for money. But what does that mean?
I have it quite easy because my website gives people lots of food for thought and they get an immediate sense of who I am and how I do things before they even email, SMS or phone me. Others have a slightly more difficult time of it.
Basically, you wouldn’t want to go for a rate of R350p/h+ and you wouldn’t want to go for a rate of R100p/h either. Why? The secret is in NOT zooming in on price alone. Yip, you get many good instructors at varied rates, but the “fit” will be up to you, whether you feel comfortable with the person and how they carry over knowledge to you. You can pay whatever you like and feel ecstatic or very frustrated and neglected at exactly the same price everywhere. See what I mean?
Now that you’ve found a comfortable fit, you’ll learn that comfort, however, is not everything – you need good instruction and an instructor that gives attention to detail. Detail, as in for instance, does he pick up on what makes you nervous, why it makes you nervous, what does he do to resolve matters? Most importantly, do you get the feedback on whether you’re doing things right or how you can improve? I know it sounds silly, but there ARE driving instructors out there that think you can read their minds.
Not all driving instructors will have a passion for what they do like I have, but they could be very good none the less. The basic difference comes in at the juncture where a driving instructor regards how they spend your time and money as just “a job”. Those, you need to weed out as soon as you can, if you’re going to get anywhere with any success.
Change instructors often, if you must, BUT remember, YOU are 50% of the deal. If you, yourself, don’t give it your all then even a driving instructor worth his weight in gold won’t get much accomplished. After each lesson you can have a re-run in your mind and critically look at what you’ve learned. Yes, it does get boring. Yes, you’ll do the same thing repeatedly.
That’s how we learn, as humans – be repetition and association. Brace yourself. You can’t go from 0 – 120 in the first few lessons, although your mind might not agree. You’re gonna do loads of 20km/h before you’ll advance to 40km/h…and eventually you’ll do 60km/h including all K53 procedures without a problem.
A road, is a road, is a road… It may feel that your immediate environment in Randburg is different from that of Bryanston, Sunninghill, Fourways or Sandton and to a certain extent you’d be right. They do have a certain character of their own but you’ll be working with the most basic principles such as all roads where you’ll learn to drive have the same road rules, road signs, will be tarred and all will have robots, stop streets and fourway stops, for instance.
Don’t give up in your search! I’ve had clients who have had up to 6 driving instructors and others who have had up to 8 failed driving tests over an extended period before they found me and they couldn’t believe that what I taught them in the first hour proved to be the first quality instruction they have experienced. Strange but very, very possible.
It’s your choice. Make it a wise one.
