Sick Robot Joke or Death Trap?
Practical jokes are all the rage, to some. To others, it’s a great embarrassment to have people laugh at their expense, particularly so when probable injury may be sustained…or worse, when they really get injured and it’s not a joke anymore.
Jokes are meant to be funny and practical jokes are meant to be funny – to a point. Let’s face it, when Leon Schuster’s victim retaliates and whacks him it ain’t so practical, now is it?
Now, what I fail to understand is that some elements in society would think it funny or practical humour to screw around with safety on our roads, like typically demonstrated by this robot-thing which is the new “humour” the last couple of years.
Today I was driving along Honeydew West Road as I often do, and had it been the average skewed robot (today, on the corner of Northumberland Avenue), I think I may have missed it since I’m sure you’ve noticed there seems to be so many of those these days.
What caught my immediate attention was that the green light was purposely turned to face oncoming traffic (arrow shows direction) – some sick mind’s idea of a joke! I wish that this sick person would realise that their own family, friends and loved ones could be injured or killed by their idea of a joke – not remotely funny at all I’m sure!
The worst of all is that it’s not necessarily going to be a drunk driver that will get confused by the traffic light, but the fact is that ANY driver that so much as succumbs to distraction, WILL be susceptible to a cognitive processing challenge and an error in judgement. I’ve seen the schrapnel of one accident here already, cause of which I cannot conclude to be due to the ill-alligned robot.
It has long been rumoured that tow truck drivers do all sorts of interesting things like spilling oil or diesel on roads and skewing robots to improve the accident business. I, for one, simply don’t believe that this is their norm or even a serious strategy, given that some people drive like idiots of their own free will, due to impatience alone. Plenty business there for all!
PLEASE be careful out there – it really is the Silly Season. People are tired after a long year’s work; they are irritated and stressed by all sorts of pressures at work, home, school and varsity. They are distracted by their own thoughts, not to mention chattering passengers, cell phones, blaring radios, egos, emotions and impatience.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE take a good look around at intersections and give them some special attention. If this kind of Robot Freak is around you may end up with drivers skipping a robot quite innocently. If you are gunning your car, just waiting for that split second when the light will change to green, you are not the only one and to make matters worse, you may just be meeting the innocent guy in an untimely and unfortunate manner. This is the OPTIMISTIC view at this here robot being discussed.
Driving DESERVES your attention ALL THE TIME!
Stay safe, drive safely, and a Merry and blessed Christmas!
