Social Responsibility
As of 2012 I will be taking on the social responsibility to train one person per year on a driving lesson bursary basis.
It has become crucial to eradicate the myths and great confusion among the public regarding the effort, time, resources and safety of learning to drive confidently by the time a driving test is applied for, let alone passing and being considered a driver after a driving test and the next 60-odd years following that.
Questions?
What is meant by ‘Bursary’?
Simply put, the bursary will allow you to do driver training on a free or sponsored basis and your driving lessons will be covered, within limits.
How many lessons do I get?
Depending on your progress, some may need more lessons than others.
The offer on the table is anything up to 40 hours of training and one drivers test.
Lessons are not transferable and not redeemable for cash.
What is covered and what not?
Your driving lessons are covered, but not any parking Ground Fees.
Your first test is covered, but not any consecutive tests.
Any government fees for appointment bookings and license issue is for your account.
What will the quality of the training be like?
Over many years I have known only how to do one quality – my very best. There will be no half-measure in anything that you will experience, so that means you have to do your very best in training too.
What do I need to do to qualify?
You need to write an essay of no less than 500 words on the subject given below, for the year within which you apply for the bursary. Grammar is less important but checking spelling is a must-do.
Document attachments will not be accepted and while I can appreciate how aesthetically beautiful you can make your entry, your thinking and opinion on the subject matter is more important. An email entry will suffice.
Will entrants get an equal opportunity?
This is not a disadvantage-linked opportunity. What that means is that it does not matter what your sex, race, religion, bank balance, personality, or any perceived quality you have may be – your thinking and opinion on the subject matter is what determines whether you have the right stuff going for you to be called a Safety Advocate.
I’d prefer that you haven’t had prior formal training, but if you had it will not disqualify you or bias my decision.
It can’t be more equal than that.
To keep it really fair and equitable for everybody no ghost writing is allowed, so make it your own work to be proud of once published.
Is the essay and public reporting really necessary?
Bursaries normally are not subject to these sort of conditions, but there’s a twist.
This is an example of an enquiry that I received:
Question:
“Is the whole public reporting and essay thing absolutely necessary, or are you out to pull a marketing stint?”
Answer:
If you get a study bursary from a company you will be required to ‘work back’ the cost whilst in their employ after graduation, not so? This bursary is based on the same principle. Your ‘work back’ would be reporting your progress during the process of getting your license.
Most people prefer to stick to convention, keep things just as they are, don’t fix things that aren’t broken, and are totally stuck in their comfort zone. I’m a maverick who defies convention and hence this bursary will get the skeptic’s red flags raised. It’s a simple fact that altruism and philanthropy will be questioned, but I have found when trust becomes an issue and can’t be won and maintained, it’s time to move on for all parties normally.
Marketing and the stints out there in the world normally involves manipulating your mind into believing you want something you don’t really need.
I offer what you want and need.
It’s as simple as that.
What happens if I don’t refer people?
It is not compulsory to refer people. The Terms & Conditions cater for that in the event that you do.
This is an example of an enquiry that I received:
Question:
“Can my friend and I go half-half on cost for training and the bursary?”
Answer:
I can’t see it practically working.
People will always find inventive ways of approaching any situation. Some things just simply can’t be split in half. In this case, only one of you will get the bursary, so one of you will have to do the essay, one of you will get the training and have to adhere to the bursary’s Terms & Conditions…all of that being the same person. The other will be a regular client and have to pay the standard fees for driving lessons and their driving test(s).
Whatever arrangement you make between you is entirely up to you.
Please see the Terms & Conditions
How do sponsors interact in this setup?
There are many ways of sponsoring.
This is an example of an enquiry that I received:
Question:
“My son is going to enter the competition and should he win I also would like to be a sponsor.
Can I do that and if so, how can I help?”
Answer:
Thank you for the kind offer.
There are many ways in which you can offer your support. I’ve had offers of car services, tyres, car washes, bottled water, Energade, Big Macs…and even an offer to pay for parking Ground Fees on a monthly basis. Let your imagination run wild : )
Any other questions?
Feel free to enquire prior to sending your entry.
Please mark your subject header BURSARY – ‘Your Name’.
Emails without a name in the subject header will not be answered.
Only a read receipt will ensure that I got your enquiry or entry.
That’s about it. Good Luck!
Although I will not specifically or actively solicit corporate sponsorships, they are more than welcome in the form of supporting advertising space on this page or contributions specific to a custom request.
