Why I Don’t Guarantee a Licence
Recently I have heard more and more shocking confessions and tales from authorities about some instructors and driving schools that offer “Guaranteed Licences”.
Apparently there are different ways of achieving this:
The list goes on…and on
In essence, what it means when people ask “Can you guarantee my Licence?”, what they are really saying is that they aren’t prepared to put in the time and the effort to become a legal road user and they want to buy a “margin of error” – PERIOD!
Just think about it….
Did you have a promise of a guaranteed pass from your school? No! It took real hard work, didn’t it?
Did your parents haggle about the school fees? No! They know education comes at a premium, don’t they?
Did your parents enrol you in the best school so you may get the best education? YES!
Now hear this…THIS is what I just don’t get (maybe it’s just me). The same parents that enrol kids in the best schools are often the same parents skimping on driving education. Vital education that I consider a child’s Right To Life. After all, failing a year at school is disappointing but having substandard knowledge of what to do on he road in critical circumstances can kill you, and possibly others too.
I realise that we live in an instant gratification era where our demands are increasingly putting pressure on ourselves and everything around us, but if there’s one thing that you can’t get at the snap of the finger – It’s a licence. There’s a reason for that.
So, why don’t I guarantee a licence? The answer is very simple – I am not prepared to lower my standards, compromise my ethics or enrich the bottom feeders in the K53 system. I take pride in the fact that I hand over clients to The Real World with confidence, knowing that they can drive with confidence, knowing that I’ve given them much more than the K53 testing system could ever ask of them.
When people ask me about guaranteed licences I have a standard reply: “If one of your loved ones were killed in a car crash and it came to light that the other driver “bought” their licence – how would that affect your feelings about the accident? Ask me again when you’ve given that some thought”.
Harsh words perhaps but well worth the thought.
