You & Me Rock The Driving World?
If it isn’t President Obama peeking at my LinkedIn profile then it’s persons unknown using Acrobat Webcapture to capture my articles in PDF format, either to read offline later…or for whatever reason.
Interesting…
No, that doesn’t make me vain, conceited…or any other adjective people could hurl at me. No seriously, I’m no Pop-Up Toaster or Chopper Pilot with an ejector seat either. I’m just your average maverick that likes doing things differently to achieve better, faster, easier and safer results with less angst ;o)
I like to make people think…and not just thinking per se – they need to learn to think and process events for themselves; build their own judgement about driving within their limits of experience; about driving within the limits of road conditions; about not following rules blindly; about expecting the unexpected; about listening to their instincts….and so much more.
Perhaps my take on K53 driving seems fascinating. Perhaps my take on driving is a breath of fresh air. Perhaps my take on driving is unlike anything anyone else ever shared without making it sound like industry secrets to be jealously guarded. Perhaps my combination of science, physics, philosophy, metaphysics, automotive engineering, psychotherapy and such that enter the mix while a learner driver is in my car is just simply overwhelming when they realise how all of these really can relate to driving. Who knows?
It is very interesting that participation is sorely lacking and to think it takes a mere humble comment to get the process started…
Preconceived ideas and perceptions are so vastly different among people, their personalities so delicately combine with their general outlook on life to make them so uniquely different as drivers. One single K53 set of rules may be what I’m required to teach but nowhere is it written that I can’t teach a person everything I know that has kept me safe from having a single accident.
Sadly, sharing knowledge has become a commodity on sale, often in driving instruction, to the lowest bidder.
Some interesting things I heard recently:
Person 1 – “…I agree with my friends – we all think the K53 blindspot checks is retarded..”
My reply? “So you’re going to turn left without checking, drive over a bicycle (possibly kill the cyclist) and what would go through your mind then? If only for a single blindspot check before turns and U-Turns, thousands of lives can be saved across the world every day…think about it”.
Person 2 – “…it’s like you’re psychic! How do you know where I’m going to look before I even do? Why have my other six instructors never explained that and taught me what target fixation and the moth effect is?”.
My reply? “I really don’t know why the simplest basics and often life-saving principles are left for you to figure out over the next two years, at your own peril. For some it’s just a job, with or without the right attitude.”
See? Big difference in attitude – big difference in getting through and BIG difference in the results, I can assure you that to ponder is to build knowledge.
C’mon people, let’s get involved in getting safe drivers out there – learner drivers aren’t Cash Cows; they shouldn’t be innocent victims at large in a vehicle that might as well be a loaded gun in the hands of a toddler.
Print, if you must, but do come back to my site and share your comments – let’s get talking about how to swing around the trend of carnage on our roads!
